Over the long weekend earlier this month I spent a fun-filled family day in Dumbo Brooklyn with my husband, son and sister. Main Street Park is actually a part of a series of parks, including Empire Fulton Ferry Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park, which curves around the waterfront and skirts Dumbo, Brooklyn Heights, and Cobble Hill. If the name doesn’t make it obvious, Beat the Bomb is a game where you try to defuse a paint bomb in one hour or get splattered with neon colors.
Also, don’t miss an opportunity to skip rocks at Pebble Beach.
A block away is another important art space: Art in General is a gallery unique in the New York art world in that it exists to provide space and funding for artists who might not have had a chance to develop otherwise. Along this 6 block stretch you will find Main Street Park and Playground. It borders downtown Brooklyn to the south, Brooklyn Heights to the West and Vinegar Hill to the East.

Steeped in history the Fulton Ferry Landing marks the spot where the first ferry crossed from Manhattan to Brooklyn in 1642. That is, if you don’t mind the monstrously large new high rise at 250 South Street in Chinatown ruining your perfect Brooklyn Bridge shot. Continuing along the drag, on the street side you will find Empire Stores, a converted coffee warehouse turned indoor shopping mall. It’s more like the spirit of Dumbo is one of constant discovery.
