There isn't much around the park, just small towns, but if you are looking for a place to enjoy a rural setting and some peace and quiet this could be it. Comanche campground sites ar all flat, wed and easy to navigate. The staff were friendly, helpful, and really "on top" of mowing and cleaning. Shortly after arriving/check-in we went with the Park Rangers to feed the longhorns. There are eight camping spots with electricity available at this hotel in Childress, Texas. The campsites were very generously spaced, and had both water and electric (50 amp). The terrain is "rolling plains," and the vegetation consists of mesquite trees (all less than 15' tall), cedars, cactus, and a few sunflowers. There is a day-use/tent camping area right along the lake; the campground we stayed in (Comanche Loop) was on a bluff above the lake, but there was no real view of the water without walking a bit. The ranger and local volunteers put on a "Star Walk" evening once a month with talks about the various celestial bodies; and they supply a dozen telescopes for visitors to use. The park is an International Dark Sky Park. Park locks the gate 10pm -7am so if you are an early riser or late arriver, adjust accordingly. If you are coming to the park from Fort Worth, take TX 199 to U.S. 281 North. Location: 200 W. 11th Street, Quanah, TX 79252. Location: 201 South Main Street, Quanah, TX 79252. Find a wide assortment of silk flower wreaths and arrangements at this local shop. We were at the park during CoVid and did not use the restrooms/showers, but the staff was in there cleaning throughout the day, so I can only imagine they were in good shape as well. You may want to bring your fishing gear to fish in the 60-acre pond from a canoe or the fishing pier. Both features make for an interesting place to land.

Maintain at least a six-foot distance from people not in your group. You can eat your meals out at delicious nearby establishments. Relax in the pool at the end of a day of sightseeing at this campground in Vernon, Texas, that has a playground and horseshoe pit.

Seriously, it has not been cleaned in a very long time. There are miles of trails, which seem to be well-maintained as the grass/weeds are cut frequently -- I didn't use the trails because walking in the 100 degree heat is not my thing. The park is located about 10 miles outside of the small town of Quahan, Texas.

It was such a unique experience and my kids loved every bit of it. Find an extensive collection of metal art outside this building, and be amazed at the wide assortment of collectibles once you venture inside. If you are looking for collectibles and antiques, shop at this store because you never know what you might find. The terrain looks like what you would see in an old western movie; I expected Roy Rogers to ride up anytime! The Hardeman County Historical Museum offers information about the Acme & Pacific Railway as well as the town’s namesake, Quanah Parker who was the last of the Comanche Chief’s and warriors.

While there is not a Walmart in town, there is grocery/pharmacy as well as a Dollar General for supplies.
