If you want your Sambar to be delicious, you can dry roast the spices with some curry leaves, grind it and then add it to the Sambar.
I tried out the sambhar and it came out well. Tamilians love Mullangi Sambhar which is nothing but, a sambar made with radish. It can also be served with steamed rice, idli, dosa, medu vada or uttapam. So depending on the ingredients used, the sambaar will have a different taste and flavor. Lightly spiced lentils in a tamarind and coconut sauce, tempered with Indian spices.
The Mullangi Sambhar is an all-time favourite of the South Indians, especially those in Tamil Nadu where it is made very often. All the best and happy cooking :). It should be thick but of pouring consistency. Okra is GREAT in this recipe. I've got requests from some of you for a sambar recipe. You can add garnishing as per your palate. in between do check when the vegetables are cooking. Going to try making it tomorrow (My first attempt at sambar!) You can use this powder to make aromatic, flavorful ,authentic Sambar at home. in addition, there are subtle differences between the sambar prepared in a temple feast, in-house and in restaurants. mash the dal with a spoon or wired whisk. Hope you will like my version of sambar :). Thank you so much! E.g in Tamil Nadu sesame oil (gingelly oil) is used, whereas in Kerala, coconut oil is added. I am a regular visitor of ur website (after my wife went home for delivery).I have tried a lot of recipes from ur webpage. i love sambar,but was never destined to taste a self made one :( now u made it posible..thnx a lot!!!
