To add to the odd behaviour - if the 'current speaker' popup shows you can double click on it and reinstate the main chat window. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Lync client has a blank conversation window after joining an instant messaging conference.
Drag the file from your computer and drop it onto the conversation window. The only way to solve the problem is to quit Skype entirely, then re-open it, which is disruptive and annoying. I am also able to retrieve the call window by going into the skype settings and switching the state (on/off) of the "enable tabbed conversations" in the IM menu. Any solution found?
